Descripción

The Development Commuication Division (DevComm) helps Bank operational staff and client governments use communication techniques and behavioral change tools to build consensus and promote broad-based dialogue and participation in development initiatives.

DevComm-SDO is also active in the area of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to help promote dialogue on CSR among governments, private sector and civil societies in client countries and to provide advice on setting up CSR programs.

Líneas de acción en RSE

Capacitación

  • Acuerdo con el Instituto de Calidad y Ética Agropecuaria (Etic Agro) para el dictado de dos actividades en la Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad de Buenos Aires
    i) La cátedra CEMEX en Ciudadanía Corporativa en conjunto con el Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey en México, para empresas.
    ii) The Global Classroom es un curso para estudiantes sobre RSE que dicta el Banco Internacional de Reconstrucción y Fomento, en conjunto con la Wharton School of Business. La actividad comprende tres meses de duración on line, con dos videoconferencias en donde cada universidad asume un papel determinado.

Capacitación / Investigación

  • 2003: The program conducted opinion surveys in Bulgaria, Croatia, Poland and Romania. The results of these surveys were discussed and disseminated through a regional CSR conference, "Responsible Business - A New Strategy for Development", in October 2003, held in Warsaw.
  • 2004-2006: Similar studies and follow-up activities were undertaken in five additional countries of the region, namely in the Baltic Countries, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, within a program titled "Enabling a Better Environment for CSR in Central and East European Countries" launched jointly with the European Commission. A total of 12 "brainstorming meetings" and seminars were held with more than 800 participants, including government, private sector, CSO, and labor union representatives from throughout the region. These consultations led to preparatory work for developing comprehensive CSR strategies in the region.
  • Additionally, the results of the studies were presented during the European Commission/World Bank conference on "CSR in Enlarged Europe

Investigación

  • The DevComm-SDO CSR program includes conducting diagnostic studies focused on private sector perception of CSR in the Europe and Central Asia region, and preparing country-specific policy papers on key issues and options for CSR development, highlighting local CSR practices, options for a framework of government engagement, and options for potential World Bank assistance.

2
